Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, New York

A very popular tourist attraction, USS Intrepid (CV-11) is moored beside Manhattan's Pier 86 on the River Hudson. It opened as a museum in 1982, but was removed for renovation between 2008 and 2008, which is why I didn't visit it on my first US tour in 2007.

Some very interesting aircraft here, including the Space Shuttle Enterprise, freshly arrived from Udvar-Hazy and, unlike the Concorde, safely under cover. USS Growler (SSG-577), one of the US Navy's first diesel-powered cruise missile submarines, is part of the museum, carrying one of the Regulus missiles which it was designed to carry.
